It is 52F and rainy today. The property has burst into life. Greening up, flowering plants are blooming, the mosquitoes are abundant. I took a chance and
walked the paths today after I filled the bird feeders. I decided to play with filters and angles today. The first blooms are blackberries. As I walked into the woods I was amazed at how everything green and lush, almost tropical. I came across a couple of white tail does. We looked at each other and continued
quietly on our respective ways. The ferns are bursting out of the earth. As far as I can determine there are three different kinds of ferns on the property. I love seeing them and am always amazed that ferns have been around since early prehistoric times. I think about that every time I see
them. The mosses have been sprouting up in areas they do not usually grow. We have had so much rain all winter and spring I am not surprised. I like how soft the mosses feel. Some of them look like they are
sprouting some seeds. We have five flowering lady slipper orchids among thirteen plants. I know the deer like to eat them so l
try to photograph them before they disappear. I also noticed that the columbine is blooming in the front yard. Michael planted them four years ago. I like the different colors. I also saw our cannas are coming up as well as bee balm and milkweed. We have a busy property as far as flora and fauna are concerned. We have a fox raising her kits and lost two hens to her. We have two turkey hens. I hope to see their babies this year. We have a pair of red tailed hawks nesting as well as bluebirds, chickadees and purple finches. The chickadees are nesting in a bird house I inherited from Mumsie. I have planted two tomatoes plants and three pepper plants along with nasturtium which I started from seed. One has started sprouting. I have to plant the Magnolia tree that one of Mumsie’s favorite tour guides gifted me
in memory of Musmie. She always loved magnolias. It is supposed to rain all week so things will continue to grow. I think the temps are rising as the week goes on.
Beautiful… and it spares me a walk in the rain…thank you!! Love, jane McMillen P.S. I am with Mumsie about Magnolia trees!!
Thank you!
