Plus add in classes and meeting with the VA Caregivers program and I am beat. So this morning I took myself to the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover Delaware. I knew the museum would have fewer people visiting since it was Memorial Day Weekend, however, I did not know I would have the museum to myself until just before I left. There were a few staff members and me. I took full advantage. I look deeply at each piece of art, I tried to understand how it was created and more importantly how did it make me feel. I sat down whenever there was a chance to and just observe the art. I loved doing that with my mom-sitting and just looking. My mom was my art museum buddy. We went all over for art-Baltimore, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, Portland Maine, Ogunquit Maine and Easton Maryland. I loved it all.
Today’s exhibit featured an artist, Rebecca Raubacher who used mixed media to produce the horses and other animals seen. I like when I can view the artists sketch books to see how they develop an idea. All in all it was an enjoyable hour. I drove home and could tell storms were coming.
I filled the chickens water and fed them. And moved some cushions that were drying on the front lawn to the porch. The skies became darker and darker. Normally I would have turned on many lights to prevent the darkness but today I decided I would sit with the darkness as the storms approached. It was dark for about an hour with lots of thunder and rain. Another storm is on its way. But this is nothing new, storms happen a lot here as the weather gets warmer and warmer. Hopefully we won’t get torrential rain as we finally started drying out from a winter and spring full of rain.
My goals for the summer is enjoy the flower garden and the veggies I have planted. I also want to read more. My big goal to complete by mid July is to clear out the two rooms in the house where we put a lot of my mom’s things. I am cooking more and would also like to bake more. I have never had the patience to bake-it is too precise in measurements. I am more of an experimental cook.
I just hung three hummingbird feeders before finishing this post. I also fill five seed feeders as well as two platform feeders. I love the birds. I hung a decorative bird house near the feeders and was surprised to find chickadees nesting in it. The bird house was my mom’s and was one she kept in her sunroom. We also nesting bluebirds, pileated woodpeckers, red tail hawks and I believe great horned owls. I can hear baby owls calling at night.
Remember those who gave their lives for the country as the United States observes Memorial Day tomorrow.
